Christian Drama Company

So, I am at it again, putting another iron in the fire. But this is a good thing since as of May 31st I will be totally done with teaching school for a good couple of decades anyway. I have to have SOMETHING to fill the time. :-) And here is the idea: I thought there was no community theatre program in Vernon, turns out, as I was informed tonight, that there IS one, it’s just very inactive right now and has been quite awhile since they’ve done anything.

So my original idea was to create a Christian Community Theatre Program. And that still is my goal. As I talked with others and began developing this theme it began to turn into more community theatre than christian community theatre but I really don’t want it to go that direction. So I went to the Ministerial Alliance and spoke with them about my idea. They were very supportive and gave me some good ideas, including hosting an organizational meeting of interest to sort of feel out the community to see what sort of response I get regarding this vision. So I did. The meeting was tonight. I sent letters to all the ministers asking them to announce it from their pulpits, I also went onto a live community radio morning talk show at the local radio station and told both the high school and local two-year college theatre directors.

So the meeting was tonight. I had about eight people show up, which is actually more than I was expecting. One of the ladies who came, funny lady, is a drama therapist in town at the State Hospital ((mental facility)). She was INCREDIBLY helpful….she knew a bunch of theatre types in town, as well as carpentry, woodoworking, and technical people who might be willing to volunteer some time and effort. She also knew of the community program already established in Vernon which is called “Community Players”. She said they hadn’t been very active in quite awhile, but were actually having a meeting in two weeks to try to get things up and running again. They are also considered an active club in town and have an already established, and still viable budget…which was honestly one of my absolutely biggest concerns.

AND the woman who runs the Community Players just happens to be one of the ladies in my Ametuer musician’s group called the Mozart Club. She and I have worked together for a couple pieces with the Mozart club and I’ve been to her house, I’ve helped her out finding trumpet players for a cemetary dedication at the base she wanted to do, and we already get along really well. SO we are going to get together and it sounds like she is willing for the two groups to either be combined somehow, or else for the Christian group to become an offshoot of the Communiry Players which would be my ideal scenario. Sort of keep them seperate entities, but pool our resources that way. :-) I am SO thrilled that this hair-brained idea of mine might actually take shape.

Please pray about this as I have a feeling everything is going to be moving pretty quickly in the next couple of weeks. The meeting of the Board of the Community Players is the 18th and I’m definitely going to attend but I would like to have some sort of arrangement already in mind or already set with Priscilla before that meeting takes place. She is someone with whom I can freely air concerns and such however so that is very good. She will be calling me tonight so…..details will surely follow soon thereafter.

Blessings, Angela <><
